Blog Journal:Salads are an important menu item. Using your book, discuss the greens you like for salads, and make some guesses about some that you've never seen/tried.
I like salads that include a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. A combination salad would be a salad that combines any of the four salad types. I would like to try arugula, escarole, and watercress.
when I fix me a salad, I usually use Romaine lettuce or iceberg lettuce heads and sometimes spinach. I put cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, and croutons on it. I want to try bibb lettuce because it looks pretty cool, almost like a rose in the picture in the book. I also want to try Radicchio because its a redish purple color with white on it, its very different from other salad greens.
In my typical salads I use spinach or iceberg. With spinach I like to pair it with garnishes such as fruit and nuts and a light vinaigrette. With the iceberg lettuce I like to create a cobb like salad. I would like to try watercress greens, I like a peppery flavor to my salads so using the watercress would give it that natural flavor without having to add the spice. I enjoy the overall balance you get with a tangy/sour flavor and a sweet flavor. By pairing a raspberry vinaigrette with bitter green like curly endive would most likely make for a great salad.
The greens I like for a salad is, green cabbage, escarole, and spinach. I think these three go really well together because the bitterness of the escarole yet the smoothness of the spinach goes really well together, especially with a dressing that compliments the different types of "greens." I would think the watercress would be peppery, I also would guess the leaf lettuce would be crunchier than the other lettuce.
I do not like salad, or lettuce. But I will try any of them. I don't know if I will like them or not. Probably not. But I think Arugula might taste okay, and Bibb lettuce, and Iceberg lettuce might be alright.
I love eating salads, when I make myself a salad I like to use romaine lettuce, arugula, and spinach for my salad greens. Then use fruit, walnuts, and tofu for protein
I try to make different types of salads with different types of lettuce. I tried Romaine lettuce, Iceburg and Green Cabbage with all types of vegetables I can get my hands on. I would like to try Arugula, Bibb and Watercress.
The greens that I like for salads are greens like Spinach, green cabbage, Romaine lettuce and Iceberg lettuce. In my opinion these lettuces go well in a salad that has carrots, tomatoes, and a variety of meats with an Italian dressing covering the top in a decent amount.
I personally am not a big fan of salads, but I do enjoy a small side salad before an entrée. The things I mostly enjoy romaine lettuce, cabbage, sliced carrots, cherry tomatoes, and of course the always delectable croutons. Although, I would like to try red cabbage, arugula and radicchio.
My favorite type of greens are romaine because it doesn't have a watery taste but it also doesn't have a strong flavor, it is very mild; and also iceberg lettuce because it can be mixed with other greens, and because the leaves can be used as bowls and filled with toppings. I would like to try belgain endive, butterhead lettuce and escarole because they sound like they have a very good flavor.
A nice salad to me would include green and red cabbage with leaf lettuce. With the greens, mushrooms, cucumbers, tomato (season) and radish. The Napa cabbage and red cabbage would have mild and a tough leaf mix with the soft leaf lettuce would make a nice soft tough texture and bright colors. I would like to try radicchio and Bibb lettuce. Numeracy: You will need 5 gallons with some left over.
I typically eat my salads with romaine or iceberg lettuce, ranch or thousand island dressing, and garnished with tomato, cheese, carrots, and pepperoni. I've never had a salad other than that, but i am open to varieties. I've never tried bibb lettuce, green cabbage, red cabbage, leaf lettuce, or radicchio. I haven't had much experience with salads but im hoping to improve that.
